If I Can Do It, So Can You!

I’m Matt Lawenda, Founder of the Financial Foundation Co. If you are stuck living paycheck-to-paycheck, debt up to your eyeballs, tiered of borrowing money from your family, sick and tired of seeing friends and family on social media go on epic vacations, while you are stuck at home wondering how you are going to pay rent!

You are in the right place, a little over 15 years ago, I was this exact person. I was a high school dropout working at a job that was never going to promote me. I was 10’s of thousands of dollars in debt, collection agencies were calling me, what felt like every 5 minutes. My credit was so bad, I couldn’t even get a secured credit card or a pre-paid phone. Living like this put so much unnecessary stress on myself, the constant struggle and self-disappointment weighed heavy on me, my self-worth and self-esteem were at an all-time low. I was severely depressed and secretly jealous of all the successes my peers were having around me. I felt alone and stuck in this horrible cycle.

I never intended to live my life like this, I had goals of owning my own house, having the nice car, having the vacation house, having an abundance of money, and working for myself and not some job that couldn’t care less about me.

At the peak of my depression, I had fallen even further and started self-medicating with drugs and alcohol which finally resulted in a DUI. Around that same time, I also lost my father to cancer. My father was great with money, he had a successful business, owned multiple properties, and knew how to invest his money wisely. Before he passed, he was trying to teach me how to get out of debt, learn how to manage my money and how to invest, unfortunately he didn’t get to see that. However, he gave me something else, something that I hadn’t had before, Hope. He told me “Everything happens for you, not to you” there is a lesson to be learned and all you must do is listen.

I was done feeling depressed, making myself physically sick with stress and worry. I finally had to make a choice, I could either continue the same path or I could climb out of the gaping hole that I had dug. I choose to start climbing! My journey began researching the fastest ways to get out of debt, I learned how to create and monitor a budget, how to find extra money, how to rebuild my credit score, I learned the real way credit cards should be used and how to make my money work for me. People can do incredibly things when they put their mind to it and stay disciplined.

Today I don’t stress about bills, I don’t get nervous about my credit card declining Infront of friends or family.  When people ask, well how’s your credit, I always get a little smirk and say, “it’s amazing!” Today I am debt free with an 800+ credit score, I own multiple properties (that pay me every single month), I have a career that I love along with a few side hustles that bring me joy and extra money.  I get to take my family on epic vacations throughout the year and get to enjoy simple pleasures like going out to eat whenever I want and get to live my life to the fullest.

Now I don’t say this to brag, it took me years to rebuild my foundation and to get to this point. I look back and I remember how challenging the path was, how overwhelming it was to get started. I also remember reaching milestones along my journey, small or large, each one felt like a weight lifted off me, the feeling was intoxicating. I am not a financial advisor, nor do I claim to know everything, I am a guy that has 15 years of knowledge and firsthand experience, that I have personally used to turn my life from a dreadful debt nightmare to a life full of abundance. I wish to share what I have learned with you.

I created the Financial Foundation Co as a resource to help those who are in similar financial situations, providing the community, knowledge, tools, and step-by-step processes necessary to achieve your financial goals faster, so you can start living the life that you want today.
